Coalition in Dialogue - Peoplehood in a Time of Crisis

Israel is facing challenging times with a divided society, and it is the duty of organizations like the Reut Group, in collaboration with the ANU - Museum of the Jewish People and the Tisch Center for Jewish Dialogue, to bring people from all points of view together to discuss and exchange ideas. With the support of a special ROI grant from the Schusterman Foundation, the Jewish Peoplehood Coalition has taken action and launched a new program, "Coalition in Dialogue - Peoplehood in a Time of Crisis," which has been running for the past few weeks at the ANU Museum.

The goal of these events is to strengthen the connection between coalition members and explore their specific role in this challenging time. Important conversations like these are crucial in bringing people together and working towards a united society, especially during times of crisis. The Reut Group believes that when everything is aflame, it is time to strengthen unifying and diverse spaces.

The Jewish Peoplehood Coalition was established as a pluralistic, apolitical platform that places its commitment to the entire Jewish people at its center in order to establish a broad concept regarding the importance of the solidarity of the Jewish people. Precisely in this period, we witness the great importance of the coalition of communities as a leadership community and leaders who can act together to hold on to the common bases of the Jewish people in times of crisis.

The activity includes a meeting in good spirit of an hour and a half that will include a group conversation and a one-on-one meeting that will allow members to build personal and professional relationships and discuss the sensitive issues that are currently in the public debate. The meeting will deal with the personal and group background that shape our opinions in an attempt to reach understanding and not necessarily agreement.

Tracy Frydberg, Director of the Tisch Center for Jewish Dialogue and Reut Group alumna, spoke about the importance of constructive dialogue during high tension times, stating that "now more than ever we yearn for constructive dialogue. The Tisch Center created that opportunity through a unique ongoing encounter initiative with Israel’s Peoplehood coalition. We are bringing together Israelis from across civil society to share and listen to the other while creating an opportunity to ask and wrestle with what our individual and collective responsibility is as a group committed to Jewish Peoplehood."

Barak Sella, Director of the Reut Group, emphasized the critical need to approach the crisis with a new understanding, stating that "this is not only a crisis of democracy but also of Jewish identity. During this time, it is critical to emphasize the solidarity and commitment all groups of the Jewish people worldwide to a democratic state."

In conclusion, the Reut Group, ANU - Museum of the Jewish People, and Tisch Center for Jewish Dialogue are collaborating to bring Israelis together during challenging times. The Coalition in Dialogue - Peoplehood in a Time of Crisis program aims to strengthen the connection between coalition members and explore their specific role in this challenging time. Through important conversations like these, we can work towards a united society and emphasize the importance of peoplehood and solidarity during times of crisis.
