Diaspora Diplomacy
Opening conference for the New Year in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to emphasize the role of the relationship with Diaspora Jewry in Israel's diplomatic field
On October 6, Reut and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the Peoplehood Coalition for a Rosh Hashana toast. The event focused on Diaspora Diplomacy, presenting the work of the Diaspora Unit at the MFA and the work on the ground by several senior diplomats who served in Peru, Ukraine, and Canada. The event's highlight was a serious but nonetheless funny conversation with Israeli comedian Guri Alfi and Moshe Samuels, the creators of the excellent TV series ‘The New Jew,’ telling Guri’s experiences and impressions as an Israeli Jew living in the US.
Barak Sella, Deputy CEO of the Raut Institute and Director of the Jewish Peoplehood Coalition: "For us, this meeting is another milestone in the process of Israeli society and the State of Israel internalizing the idea that the connection with World Jewry is a strategic advantage - from a political and diplomatic point of view, but even more so, from a moral and value point of view. No other country in the world has such a large and powerful population of non-citizens that care and want to influence it and is looking for ways to make their voices heard. Even if it's sometimes hard to hear criticism - it's a tremendous strategic advantage."
